List
of Journals Publishing Articles and Reviews on Kierkegaard
Click here to access an Excel
file (330kb)
which provides details on journals that have published articles and
reviews on Kierkegaard between 1995 and 2010.
Purpose
This
information is provided with the following goals in mind:
- to
give researchers working in this field a sense of which journals have
been receptive to publishing Kierkegaard-themed articles;
- to
provide researchers with an easy-to-use overview of potential outlets
for their work;
- to
identify high-quality research outlets that, to date, have not
published articles on Kierkegaard but might do so, given their
editorial approaches; and
- to
provide some data on where and how often Kierkegaard is being
published.
Description
The
file contains three worksheets:
-
The Overview sheet
provides a series of tables and graphs outlining where Kierkegaard
articles and reviews have appeared in the last 14 years.
- The Data sheet provides a list of all papers included in the underlying data.
-
The Journals tab
provides information
on journal editorial policies, frequency, word limits, number of
Kierkegaard items published, and how each journal is ranked according
to various sources - most notably the European Science Foundation's European
Reference Index for the Humanities (although see the note on journal rankings
below).
The data includes journals
publishing in all areas of the Humanities and Social Sciences. It does not include articles published in
specialist Kierkegaard Studies publications (Kierkegaardiana, Kierkegaard
Studies Yearbook,
Kierkegaard
Studiet etc.); articles
appearing in undergraduate journals; and (for the time being) articles
published in languages other than English.
The data has been sourced
from Philosopher's Index, Google Scholar, and direct searches on
journal websites. Additions, comments, corrections and suggestions are most welcome.
A
Cautionary Note About Rankings
Please
note that the ranking provided here in no way reflects the opinions
of the maintainer of this website.
Before using the rankings, I strongly recommend you read the British Philosophical Association's letter
regarding the ERIH rankings and the Australasian
Association of Philosophy's letter to the Australian Research Council,
outlining their serious reservations about these journal ranking
exercises. There are good reasons both to be skeptical about the
rankings themselves and concerned about their possible side-effects.
Earlier iterations of this spreadsheet included rankings from the Australian Research Council. While the 2010 rankings are still available online, in late May 2011 the ARC announced it was discontinuing the use of its ranking system. Accordingly, these rankings have now been removed from the spreadsheet.
As
of June 2011 several religious studies journals have not yet had their
revised ESF rankings released; when they are I'll update the
spreadsheet as soon as possible.
